Mescaline Substance Abuse Treatment

Mescaline Substance Abuse TreatmentWhat is Mescaline?

One of the many substances that was originally popular during the “hippie” days is Mescaline. It occurs naturally in the Peyote cactus and is a psychedelic alkaloid that works in much the same way that LSD does as well as being capable of producing altered states of consciousness and hallucinations. In order to ingest Mescaline, the button of the peyote cactus must be ground into a dark brown powder and mixed in a liquid so you can drink it. It has the potential to cloud the mind and produce some mind-boggling side effects.

Mental and physical side effects

The ongoing recreational use of mescaline oftentimes leads to dependency, but because every experience is typically different from the prior one, it is thought of as not being addictive. Regardless, many addiction treatment and recovery centers implemented mescaline substance abuse treatment programs when this was a much more significant issue during the 1960’s and early 1970’s. The most common side effects include:

  • anxiety and panic attacks
  • creative visuals when your eyes are closed
  • dizziness and fainting
  • dream-like scenarios
  • euphoria
  • the fear of not being able to regain normal consciousness
  • feelings of annihilation or death
  • hallucinogen persisting perception disorder (HPPD)
  • irrational thought processes
  • magical or mystical experiences
  • new, unfamiliar thought processes
  • tachycardia (irregular heartbeat)
  • temporary destruction of or the “splitting” of one’s ego

There may be physical and psychological side effects involved when taking the drug. These mental effects oftentimes include disorganized thoughts, impairment of your perception and sensation, and psychotic reactions. The physical side effects include dilated pupils, heavy perspiration and sweating, elevated body temperature, increased blood sugar, and nausea.

The Delray Recovery Center is here to help

Today, there are still Mescaline substance abuse treatment and recovery therapies being offered at many addiction rehab centers nationwide. Despite the fact that hallucinogenic substances are not quite as popular as they once were, it doesn’t mean that dependencies with these are no longer an issue. If fact, just the opposite is true. Thanks to the rampant population increase we have experienced since the 1960’s when Mescaline first became popular, there is still a need for programs that address this.

The Delray Recovery Center can customize a Mescaline substance abuse treatment program that addresses the needs of the body, mind, and spirit while utilizing a wide array of Holistic and traditional therapy in order to achieve one’s recovery goals. A total recovery oftentimes means living substance-free for the rest of one’s life and this is the primary goal of our 5-phase step-down model that we employ where addiction treatment and recovery are concerned.
