Sober Living Programs

The purpose of sober living programs

Although you can enroll in sober living programs anywhere in the US today, that wasn’t always the case. They originated on the west coast but have now spread into every state in the country, Alaska and Hawaii included. Originally, these residences were halfway houses for recovering alcoholics and recently released prisoners who were in transition between the institutions they were in and their home community. The terminology sober living facilities now refers to a transitional residence that is geared to recovering alcoholics and drug addicts who are trying to remain substance-free without relapsing once they return home.

How do individuals benefit from them?

The key benefit of transitioning back into society via any of our sober living programs here at the Delray Recovery Center in Florida is that the person regains confidence in their sobriety and no longer fears the possibility of relapsing back into their particular addictions. They are taught a variety of relapsing prevention techniques as well as receiving educational materials and being provided with other recovery tools which include:

  • art therapies in order to supplement language
  • group and individual counseling sessions
  • health and wellness programs
  • healthier meal planning
  • spirituality workshops (if necessary)
  • weekly therapy field trips

Overall, the sober living programs available today offer more benefits than other transitional residences out there the most significant benefit being emotional safety and well-being. They are allowed to continue recovering and gaining confidence in their sobriety without having to worry about how they are viewed by society. Our sober living programs also enable the person to continue their education or pursue gainful employment during the day as most of the sessions occur during the evening.
