Sober Living Facility
An overview of sober living environments
The concept of a sober living facility originated several decades ago on the west coast. Originally, the these residences benefited to types of individuals – prisoners that were recently released back into society and recovering alcoholics, both of which were in the process of transitioning from the institutions they were in to their home communities. They were originally referred to as halfway houses in most instances but that terminology is used for ex-convicts now.
On the other hand, the terminology “sober living environment or facility” now applies to those residences that strictly cater to recovering alcohol and drug addicts who have recently completed an addiction treatment and recovery program. It is the goal of the sober living facility to enhance the individual’s recovery so that they have confidence in their sobriety and have learned certain relapse prevention techniques. Many individuals maintain a substance-free existence today because of this type of residence.
How do clients benefit from this environment?
There a number of ways in which a sober living facility benefits the individuals who take up residency there before returning to society and maintaining a healthier lifestyle that is totally substance-free in nature. Clients also benefit from the education and support that they receive when they stay in one of these environments which include the following:
- art therapy
- being financially responsible and paying their monthly bills on time
- group and individual counseling sessions
- health and wellness programs
- nutritional meal planning
- spirituality workshop (if required)
- therapy excursions
All of these enable the individual to gain confidence in their sobriety and the client learns more relapse prevention techniques in the process. With the use of a mixture of Holistic and conventional therapies, our sober living facility here at the Delray Recovery Center can offer the client a greater chance of being successful and staying substance-free.
No time limits on your stay
Due to the fact that no two individuals are alike where addiction treatment and recovery is concerned, and that they may require a longer period of time in our sober living facility than other clients would, we never impose a time limit on anyone where the length of stay is the consideration. Additionally, you have to have gone through an intensive in-patient addiction treatment and recovery programs (whether here or elsewhere) before you can take up residency in the sober living facility here on the premises.
