Sober Living Environments

What are sober living environments?

sober living environmentsSober living environments, or SLE’s as they are more commonly referred to, are facilities that serve as an interim residence for addicts recovering from substance abuse and transitioning between the rehab center and society. SLE’s are meant to provide the recovering addict with a residence that is structured and is a supportive environment that aids in the recovery process. Another function of sober living environments is to make the transition process easier so the person remains substance-free when returning to society.

Although they originated on the west coast of the US, sober living environments can now be found in every state in the country. Compared to other transitional facilities, SLE’s provide the recovering addicts with a number of benefits that the other facilities don’t. Many SLE’s are structured around a number of recovery programs and therapies. Additionally, each SLE has different requirements for their residents but the most common are:

  • Alcohol and drugs are strictly prohibited
  • Alcohol and drug testing is conducted on a random basis
  • Residents must attend mandatory AA or NA meetings
  • Residents must be accepted into the facility by the SLE peer group
  • Residents must pay their monthly bills on time

On an interesting side note, sober living environments are a relatively new phenomenon in the addiction treatment and recovery industry so very few studies have been conducted to see how successful this type of transitional environment is. However, many recovering alcoholics and drug addicts have stated that the SLE played a significant role in their recovery process and impacted their lives positively.

Sober living at Delray

The Delray Recovery Center has sober living environments on the premises for those clients who wish to continue their recovery and build up their confidence so that have no fear of relapsing back into their addictions when they return home to their communities. They are welcome to stay on the premises without having to adhere to a time limit where their length of residency is concerned. They also learn relapse prevention techniques in order to build confidence in their sobriety.

Our sober living environments do not come with residency time limits because no two individuals are alike and their recovery needs are different. A client cannot enter an SLE here at the Delray Recovery Center until they have completed one of our in-patient addiction treatment and recovery programs. At that time, they are enrolled in an intensive out-patient recovery therapy program that is geared to the individual who wants to continue their education or pursue employment.

For more information on our sober living environments or to ask any questions about our facility, please fill out the form above and e-mail it in. One of our staff members will be in touch with you shortly.
