Residential Sober Living
What is a sober living environment?
Facilities used by recovering alcoholics or drug addicts that provide the individual with interim housing until they have recovered enough to return home to society are referred to as sober living environments or SLE’s. These are also referred to as residential sober living environments or halfway houses since they are group homes that typically house a number of individuals who are trying to make the transition from the in-patient addiction treatment and recovery program to society.
Additionally, a residential sober living environment provides individuals with a safe and very supportive atmosphere to live in while they continue to recover from their addictions. The goal is for them to eventually return home to their communities without the fear of relapsing back into their addictions. These facilities are there for those individuals who have finished an in-patient addiction treatment and recovery as well as a place to live in while continuing to recover.
Finding the right residential sober living environment
Chances are, no matter where you live, there will probably be several residential sober living centers in your community, so selecting one that will suit your personal needs and provide you with the support you need may be a difficult task. In many cases, these are not affiliated with any addiction treatment and recovery facility and are recommended by the courts should you addiction have become a legal issue. Additionally, they are recommended by the physician or psychologist that was part of an in-patient program.
One of the key features of the Delray Recovery Center is the fact that we have a sober living facility here on the property for those individuals that are not totally confident about returning to society and remaining substance-free in the process. If a client has completed an in-patient addiction treatment and recovery program, they can stay in our residential sober living center. Additionally, they are not subjected to a time limit and can remain in residency as long as they feel is necessary.
Once they are fully confident about their sobriety, they are allowed to leave and return home to their communities where they can maintain their substance-free lifestyle. They will have learned relapse prevention techniques in the process so that they can handle living on their own without the need for alcohol or drugs. The important aspect of our residential sober living program is that we do not enforce a strict number of days or time limit when transitioning from rehab back to society.
