Help for Addiction

Dealing with addiction

Addiction to alcohol and drugs exists in great numbers throughout the US. Currently, there are about 25 million individuals who are dealing with substance abuse, addiction, and dependency issues and the number keeps growing every year. About half of these suffering individuals should be getting help for addiction immediately. However, the sad truth is that only about 10% of them will.

What’s worse is that there are about 40 million reported cases annually of visits to the ER rooms in hospitals across the US that are alcohol and drug related, some of which will be fatalities resulting from overdose. So addiction is a serious public health threat as well as a legal issue. The effects of addiction can be seen at the emotional, mental, physical, and even the spiritual level as well as the financial, legal, and social levels.

It’s not just the addict that suffers

In addition to the damage that alcoholic or drug addict is doing to themselves, their behavior has an impact on everyone around them, especially their family members and loved ones. Other people around them suffer as well, such as their personal friends and their fellow workers on the job. The harsh reality is that they know they have a problem and need to get help for addiction, but they don’t.

The individual’s family members feel completely devastated by the individual’s addiction and powerless to do anything about it. It is not uncommon for children, parents, siblings, and spouses to feel that they played a contributing role in the person’s addiction as if they were part of the problem. This is one of the primary reasons why those individuals around the person are included in the program when the person finally gets help for addiction. For the addict, realizing that there is a problem beyond their control is the first step towards recovery and rehab. As a team of addiction professionals, we understand the emotional, physical and psychological trauma that an addicted individual undergoes.

Although there are traditional and alternative methods of treatment, it is better to select the modern therapy method to ensure long lasting success from addiction.
