Out Patient Drug Treatment
Considerations when choosing a drug rehab program
Anytime you or a loved one is dealing with drug addiction, you are most likely dealing with broken lives and shattered relationships. When this is the case, there is a real possibility that the only solution will be to enter an addiction treatment and recovery program for help. If you are talking with other family members or health professionals about this issue, you are probably going to hear some terminologies that are unfamiliar to you such in-patient or out-patient drug treatment. What’s the difference you ask?
The names of both imply exactly what those programs are all about. The in-patient program is a residency program wherein you enter the facility and have your own private apartment like setting to retire to at the end of each day. You stay in the facility overnight and you don’t return home until you have completed the program. The environment is very structured with daily regimens and activity schedules to follow. Additionally, you are being supervised around the clock.
Although the out-patient drug treatment format features many of the same services that the in-patient one does, you do not reside in the facility while going through the program. The primary difference is that the out-patient program can be done without interrupting your daily life. If you are in school, you can continue pursuing your education. If you have a steady full-time job, you will be able to be there and perform your daily tasks. In so many words, the out-patient program is conducted as a series of daily appointments.
The primary advantages of out-patient drug treatment
Regardless of the differences between the two programs, the goal of both programs is always the same. They are there to help individuals overcome their addiction so that they can return home to their community and live substance-free for the rest of their life. There are several advantages that the out-patient drug treatment program has over in-patient ones. However, the primary advantage is that the out-patient program typically costs less than the residential ones. So having the financial means to pay for a program is critical.
