Ritalin Drug Rehab
The Novartis trademarked name for Methylphenidate is Ritalin, a psychostimulant that is prescribed for the treatment of specific disorders such as:
- Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
- Narcolepsy
- Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS)
In addition to these, Ritalin is sometimes prescribed for the off-label treatment of certain treatment-resistant cases such as:
- Depression
- Lethargy
- Neural insult
- Obesity
- Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Finally, the drug is known as an instantly released “racemic” combination despite the fact that there is a wide range of formulations and numerous generic brand names currently on the market today.
Adverse side effects of Ritalin
In more recent years, clinical research has revealed that Ritalin displays a number of adverse side effects, especially when it is documented that is being used chronically or abused recreationally. The most common side effects of Ritalin are insomnia and nervousness. However, the following is a broader list of all the possible side effects that Ritalin use or abuse that may eventually be experienced:
- Abdominal pain

- Angina
- Loss of appetite
- Cardiac Arrhythmia
- Blood pressure or pulse rate changes
- Excessive sweating or Diaphoresis
- Dizziness and fainting
- Drowsiness and fatigue
- Movement disorder or Dyskinesia
- Headaches
- Hypersensitivity

- Dilation of the pupils
- Weight loss over the short term
- Stunted growth

Medical and scientific research have both recently discovered that other known and suspected health risks associated Ritalin currently exists. The harsh reality is the fact that these statistics regarding Ritalin studies were segments of a larger and more related medical research project concerning anti-depressants, anti-psychotics, or stimulants. Sadly, those statistics reveal that 1.5% of all children between the ages of 2 and 4 years were being prescribed these types of drugs to treat a particular behavioral condition.
Is it addictive?
Research studies conducted on Ritalin and other brand and trademarked names for methylphenidates In February of 2009 revealed that the drug can possibly result in changes or damages to the brain which is very similar in nature to what has been experienced with abuse of and addiction to cocaine. As result and as a precautionary measure, Delray Recovery Center has effective and highly successful Ritalin drug rehab programs so as not to take any chances with abuse and addiction.
As it stands today, it is speculative and uncertain as to whether or not Ritalin has addictive qualities as well as if it could be physically and/or psychologically damaging. However, if you or your loved one suffers with an addiction to Ritalin, it is time to seek the help from our qualified Delray Recovery Center today. We have facilities for partial hospitalization, in addition to psychological counseling and alternate therapies.
