Drug Addiction Rehab Center
The Problem of Addiction
In the US today, there are over 11,000 drug rehab facilities that offer addicted individuals a chance at overcoming their substance dependency issues and returning home to a life where they can live without the fear of relapsing back into their addictions. They will either be the older, more traditional drug addiction rehab center or the alternative, more innovative ones. Aside from the fact that the traditional facilities look like clinics, hospitals, and motels and the alternative ones appear more residential, there are other differences to be aware of when trying to decide between the two.
The Difference Between Alternative and Traditional Care
The primary differences between the alternative and tradition drug addiction rehab center is the way in which they operate and approach treating drug addiction or dependency. The traditional facility tends to take a generalized approach to the issue and basically treats every one of their clients as if they were the same individual. They tend to rely on the more conventional rehab therapies that the alternative facilities consider to be ineffective and out of date. Consequently, many of these facilities exhibit a high failure rate.
Conversely, the alternative drug addiction rehab center employs more modern, innovative therapies. Additionally, they will usually supplement their customizable addiction treatment and recovery programs with a variety of activities, education courses and materials, diet and nutritional counseling, and outdoor excursions which are very therapeutic in nature. As a result, the alternative, residential rehab facility will most likely have recovery success rates that are considerably higher than the traditional facilities.
The Two Types of Programs
There are two basic types of programs that just about every drug addiction rehab center offers the individual today – the in-patient and the out-patient format. The in-patient program requires that the individual moves into the facility to undergo treatment and start recovery while the out-patient allows the person to return home in the evenings. However, there are different operational features of each to be aware of.
In-patient programs provide the client with around-the-clock medical care, monitoring and supervision during detox and withdrawal. The individual is able to develop strong bonds with their peers and the staff members and provide them with educational courses and related materials. There is also group and individual counseling, outdoor activities and therapies, and aftercare programs with support networks.
Out-patient programs offer many of the same programs and services. However, these programs target a specific group of individuals who:
- Do not have the financial means or healthcare insurance coverage to pay for an in-patient program
- Are usually the sole guardian or parent and provider of children in the home
- Are still pursuing their education
- Are working a full-time job
Statistics have clearly shown that the in-patient programs are more effective and higher recovery success rates.
