Drug Abuse Prevention

Drug Abuse PreventionDrug abuse, sometimes also referred to as “substance abuse,” is a condition characterized by a destructive pattern of behavior of using drugs that lead to significant distress and problems. Drug abuse affects about 7% people in the world, at some point in their lives.

Virtually any substance which when ingested and becomes a cause of a euphoric feeling can be abused. However, there are some particular drugs that are commonly abused. Drugs such as alcohol, amphetamines, cannabis, cocaine, ecstasy, hallucinogens, inhalants, nicotine, opiates, and sedative or anti-anxiety drugs.

Statistics show that drug addicts take up to 527,000 emergency room visits for treatment per year, and a death toll of approximately 10,000 can be attributed to alcohol abuse within a year.

Getting help for drug abuse prevention is absolutely essential. In fact, the sooner the better. More often than not it is very difficult to convince the person in question to get rehabilitated, and that is where intervention becomes necessary. Delray Recovery Center is a professional drug abuse prevention and treatment provider, located in the serene atmosphere of coastal South Florida. It offers a number of treatment programs that are designed for individuals dealing with problems with drug addiction, alcoholism and co-occurring conditions such as anxiety, depression and insomnia.

At Delray Recovery Center, we blend traditional and alternative treatment methods to incorporate the innovative treatment for drug abuse prevention. The best part is that we offer customized plans for each individuals’ particular needs, which could include, but are not limited to; group counseling sessions, holistic therapy, individual counseling, life skill workshops, twelve-step workshops and educational seminars.

The first step for an individual at Delray Recovery Center is to discontinue substance use, which is obviously the biggest challenge that requires medical support. Depending on the type of substance and the duration, the detoxification part can be brief or long, which will set the stage for rehabilitation. Once detoxified successfully, we diagnose treatment needs and provide transition to stabilization, during which individuals receive the required level of support through group and individual programs:

  •   Existential therapy: we get the individuals to believe that our existence is never at a halt, rather we continue to improve and recreate ourselves with freedom, self awareness and self identification.
  •   Narrative therapy: during this session, we lay emphasis on how past experiences affect how the individual regards his own personality. Where needed, we reevaluate the accuracy of those past perceptions in order to bring positive changes in the individual.
  •   Gestalt therapy: this therapy focuses on integrating every dimension of the individual’s personality for promoting healthy coping mechanisms.
  •   Psychoanalytic therapy: during this session, we explore the individual’s early years of life since they influence his/her functionality at the time.
  •   Reality Objectification: this therapy aims at objectifying the individual in question in terms of the external world. It allows them react in a responsible and health manner to situations that are beyond their control.
  •   Person-centered therapy: this therapy centers on the idea of expanding and discovering new ways of life so it becomes more fulfilling and healthy.
  •   Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy: this therapy allows individuals to identify those irrational thought patterns and substitute them with rational ways of thinking.
