Out-Patient Detox
What is out-patient and how does it function
As you might suspect, there are some key differences between an in-patient and an out-patient detox program. The primary difference is residency based in nature as you are allowed to return home in the evenings from an out-patient. The following will give you an idea of whether or not you are a candidate for an out-patient detox and rehab program or an in-patient one:
- You don’t have the financial means or insurance coverage to pay in-patient care
- You are the only provider of children in the home (single parent or guardian)
- You are still pursuing your education and attending classes
- You are working a full-time job and want to run the risk of losing it
- Your substance abuse issues are not as severe as the person who needs an in-patient detox and rehab program
Just keep in mind that the out-patient detox and rehab programs enable you to finish earning your college degree or to continue working without any significant interruptions. You will still be able to take advantage of the numerous activities, programs, and services that the in-patient detox and rehab program offers.
How to know when it’s time to get help
When you are suffering with substance abuse, addiction, or dependency, this is when you will have to ask yourself “how will I know if I need professional help?” Here are five elements to consider when answering that question:
- Do you feel that you are having financial problems or are you having legal issues?
- Are you in a co-dependent relationship or living with other individuals who abuse alcohol and/or drugs?
- Have you ever been diagnosed with any behavioral or psychological conditions such as anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, eating disorders, or schizophrenia?
- Is your job overly stressful? Do you need to drink alcohol or take illegal drugs just to get through your day?
- Have you ever stopped drinking or taking drugs and then relapsed because you were experiencing excessive cravings and withdrawal symptoms
If you answered “yes” to any one of those, there is a good possibility that you are a candidate for some type of addiction rehab program. If any of the first 5 points above apply to you, then your best choice is the out-patient one.
