Treatment for Addiction

The Problem Today

Although using alcohol or drugs starts off as an enjoyable experience, a tolerance can quickly build up and eventually lead to addiction. According to the SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration of the US), the following are facts and statistics about addiction:

  • Almost 12% of all young individuals in the US are using illicit drugs by the time they reach the age of 18.
  • Of all the illegal drug users in the US, roughly 70% of them have jobs and contribute significantly to absenteeism, accidents, and injuries as well as a significant decrease in productivity, along with an increase in employee turnover costs, insurance expenses, and on-the-job violence.
  • One out of every 8 individuals in the US has a significant problem with alcohol and/or drugs 40% of whom has a concurrent condition comprised of a mental disorder and substance addiction known as dual diagnosis.
  • The medical costs involved with treating an alcoholic or drug addict are 300% higher than that of non-users.
  • There are nearly 30 million Americans who are alcoholics or drug addicts, a large percentage of which are both and over 50% of the total should be getting help for addiction immediately.

Based on these statistics, substance addiction is considered a serious public health threat and one of today’s greatest social problems. Fortunately, it has never been easier to get treatment for addiction. However, this also poses a problem for the person who is trying to find an addiction treatment and recovery program that effectively addresses their needs in that there are so many choices available. Although there are two basic programs- traditional therapy and alternative methods, the latter has higher success rates due to customized treatment programs that take into consideration emotional, psychological and physical dependency. The modern medical therapies are supported by holistic and alternative treatments which ensure a complete recovery from drug and alcohol addictions.
