Drug Addiction Recovery program

 The State of Addiction Today

Drug Addiction ProgramThere are now over 40 million cases of serious illnesses and injuries reported annually in the US so it can safely be said that drug addiction poses not only a serious drug threat but is also one of the most serious public health threats in the country today.  Not only does addiction damage the individual physically, it also affects them emotionally, mentally, and even spiritually.  Additionally, it destroys families and relationships on a regular basis.  It is not uncommon to see child and spousal abuse, homelessness, violent crimes, and numerous deaths due to overdose where this is concerned.

Unfortunately, the addicted individual is in denial about their addictions and doesn’t realize the damage they are causing themselves and how they are ripping their families and relationships apart in the process.  Obviously, the most important step the addicted individual can take is the admission of a problem.  The next step is to find a drug addiction recovery program once they have admitted that they do have a problem.  Although this sounds simple, it is the two most difficult steps that the addicted individual must take in the treatment and recovery process.

The two primary drug addiction recovery programs

Most people are not aware of the fact that drug addiction recovery programs are divided into to two different categories – the traditional and the alternative addiction treatment recovery facilities.  So what is the difference between the two? Understanding how the two programs are different is as simple as understanding the difference between the definition of alternative and traditional.  However, the differences run much deeper than that when it comes to such things as appearance and operation.

The traditional drug addiction recovery program typically operates in a facility that looks like a clinic or a hospital.  This proves to be very intimidating to the individual in most cases so they are not very comfortable when undergoing a drug addiction recovery program in this type of facility.  Another issue with the traditional facility is that they still rely on the more conventional addiction treatment and recovery therapies that are considered ineffective and even out of date.  Typically, 80% of the individuals that go through the traditional programs eventually relapse once they return to society.
