Addiction Recovery Program

Addiction Recovery Program

What are Addiction Recovery Programs?

In the US today, there are two primary addiction treatment and recovery facilities available to individuals, the traditional and the alternative.  The key difference between the two is their appearance and they way in which they operate.  Both types of facilities share a common goal and that is the complete recovery of the addicted individual.  Unfortunately, the most significant difference is the fact that the alternative has a much higher success rates than the traditional facilities and there is less relapsing when the individual returns home to their communities as a result.

Traditional Programs

What you need to be aware of is the fact that the traditional addiction recovery program utilizes the more conventional treatment and recovery therapies for the addicted individuals.  These conventional methods do not address any behavioral or psychological issues underlying the addiction the way the alternative centers do. Additionally, the traditional facilities look like clinics or hospitals whereas the alternative addiction treatment and recovery centers are residential in appearance and offer the client a homelike environment.

Most traditional therapies only address the physical consequences of the addiction process, and then try to treat and cure it using out of date methods and therapies which are ineffective at best.  That is why there is only a 20% success rate with these traditional addiction treatment and recovery centers.  On the other hand, the alternative centers have much higher success rates.

The warning signs to be aware of

It is important to realize that drug addiction oftentimes stems from a behavioral or psychological disorder that can trigger the addiction or dependency, one of which is depression.  Therefore, family members or loved ones who feel that a problem may exist should be aware of the emotional and physical warning signs that arise as the dependency grows.  There are a number of “red flags” to watch for.

Emotional warning signs:

  • thoughts about suicide
  • no motivation
  • inability to concentrate
  • guilt and/or worry
  • feeling worthless
  • constant fatigue

Physical symptoms and signs:

  • unexplained physical pain
  • lack of appetite
  • insomnia and restlessness
  • frequency of headaches
  • crying spells or hysterical outbreaks for no apparent reason
  • abnormal energy levels
