The Dangers of Crack Cocaine
Approximately 25 million people in the U.S. have used crack cocaine at least once in their lives. Crack is a reduced form of Cocaine that is usually free-based (smoked) or snorted. Why is it so dangerous? Common side effect of Crack Cocaine. How Crack is abused. Bar graph of how dangerous crack use is. Crack Cocaine has been associated with many medical risks in the United States.
Cocaine is a dangerous illegal substance that is intensified when it is processed into crack. The drug is addictive and can result in dangerous situations for the individual taking the substance or loved ones. When addiction to the drug develops, it is important to seek help.
Use of Crack in the United States
The use of crack cocaine is shockingly common in the United States. Around 25 million Americans have abused crack at least one time in their lifetime. Even a single use can result in addiction because the impact on the body is dramatic. After taking the drug, a high can last anywhere from five minutes to several hours. That feeling of pleasure that comes from chemical receptors in the brain can result in trying to repeat the experience.
Roller Coaster Feelings
Taking crack will result in a high feeling that is followed by a sudden drop in emotions. The roller coaster feelings start with pleasurable sensations and happy mental reactions. When the effects of the drug drop into a low, discomfort and annoyance develop.
Signs of Drug Use
Taking crack cocaine will result in dilation of the pupils in the eyes to almost twice the normal size. When dilation of pupils is combined with cracking around the mouth and nose, it is likely that crack cocaine is causing the change. Behavioral changes are also common signs, such as irritation and acts of violence.
Impact on Health
Using crack cocaine regularly will have an impact on the individual. Pregnant women will also cause an addiction in unborn children that causes similar effects at birth. Possible problems from the drug include:
- Heart conditions
- Blood clots in the brain
- Separation of the arteries from the aortic walls
- Insatiable appetite
- Inability to sleep at night
- Inability to focus
- High body temperature
- Pain in the throat
- Challenges breathing
- Pain in the chest
- Various infections from bacteria or fungus
The physical impact is only one part of the problem. Some individuals will also become physically violent, resulting in fights or domestic violence.
Detoxification will also lead to symptoms of withdrawal that are potentially challenging. Getting past addiction will require going through a period of discomfort, anger and heavy appetite.
Signs of Addiction with Tools
Crack cocaine has a few tools that are commonly used with the drug. A straw or similar item is used to snort the drug while an old-fashioned razor or similar tool cuts the drug into lines. Containers are also used to hold the drug until the individual is ready to use it.
Drug abuse has many dangers. Crack cocaine is one of the most dangerous drugs available on the market due to the possibility of death or serious health concerns. While it is dangerous, it is possible to overcome addiction to the substance with professional help.

Why is cannabis higher on the “danger” scale than butance and LSD combined?
Last time I checked, edible cannabis products were more safe to use than huffing butane.
Sources! where are they mentioned in the info-graphic or the small article explaining it? Some of the stuff I don’t don’t doubt but I don’t exactly find this credible either, especially since Cannabis is so high up on the scale and it should actually be lower, next to mushrooms. Especially since a lot of those are for more dangerous.
You must take into consideration the sample that is taken in this graph. FAR more people “abuse” alcohol and Marijuana than people that use LSD or butane. So hence the dangers being much greater that alcohol or pot affect a larger group of people.
You list at least seven drugs that are more dangerous to self and society than cannabis.
On the basis of that alone your article is flawed and therefore worthless.
The only negative side effect of cannabis are caused by foul laws that have been found to be based upon lies and yet we as a people are still to afraid to recognize this destruction of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
*too afraid
i appreciate you spreading this information, thank you.
Lost all chance of credibility when it lists cannabis as a dangerous substance.
It’s about as dangerous as spicy food. Less so, actually.
shot yourself in the foot by putting cannabis at 20 i must assume all of your facts are based on regurgitated biased useless B****cks, and the argument that it is higher up because it affects more people is hardly true as the damage it does to that larger group of users is none existent of the damage mirrored by ketamine users or methadone users, a simple death rate statistic could have showed you that, also khat as in mkat? are you actually on crack?? ive seen people literally wear away from that stuff, peoples faces drop of and you say its not harmful, get help, you need it
